It's not about us; if you're a Birmingham, Sandwell or Solihull expectant parent, it's all about YOU!
But here's a short bio to let you know that when we meet, you'll be in safe hands.
Hello, I'm Lorna - founder of Babes in the Wood CIC.
I'm a fun-loving mom & grandma and have a strong passion for supporting the health and wellbeing of parents-to-be.
From qualifying as a nursery nurse in the mid 80's to multi award winning birth and parenting professional (doula) and parent community leader. Birth and parenting have always been at the heart of my work.
From teaching small antenatal classes in Handsworth Wood (hence, Babes in the Wood) to creating nurturing expectant parent communities and now BIG, BOLD events supporting parental wellbeing!
We want to see local families thriving through pregnancy, birth and beyond. There are some alarming statistics around the health outcomes of our local communities and we'd like to see that change NOW!
We aim to be a part of that change by:
Speaking up about health inequalities
Organising parent health and wellbeing events
Advocating for expectant parents
Collaborating with other organisations to help support the development of inclusive & equitable health research
Engaging with local communities and organisations to facilitate co-production of support services and projects
We believe in equity first and foremost.
ALL expectant parents should have easy access to support services that meet their unique needs.
We believe that information equals power and supports parents to take ownership of their experience within the maternity system.
Expectant parents are adults who are growing, birthing and nurturing the next generation. As such, we promise to treat you with the respect and understanding that you deserve.
